The counsel
Maintaining proper books is now a statutory requirement, and the businesses that treat it as an afterthought are the ones that struggle at audit, at tax filing, and at any moment they need finance. We maintain ledgers monthly under IFRS: bank and supplier reconciliations, receivables and payables, fixed asset registers, accruals and inventory, closed on a fixed timetable rather than at year end. Owners receive management accounts they can actually read — margin by line of business, cash position, ageing debtors, and a short written note on what has changed. Because the same team prepares the tax filings, the accounts are built to answer the questions the Authority will ask, so nothing needs to be rebuilt in a hurry twelve months later.
